At Stagelight Performing Arts, we offer various “Combo classes” to introduce your child to the wonderful world of dance. Whether it be Jazz/HipHop Combo, Musical Theatre Song & Dance, Tap/Ballet Combo, or Tap/Jazz Combo, each dance class features curriculum from two separate disciplines within the performing arts. With this class format, your child learns foundational knowledge of multiple disciplines and stays engaged in a fun and welcoming learning environment. You’ll see your child blossom in confidence, make new friends, grow stronger, and fall in love with performing in these classes.

If you are looking for the perfect creative outlet for your child that also gets their bodies moving, a dance class for kids is your best bet. Be sure to enroll your 4-6 year old child in a Combo Class at Stagelight Performing Arts! You might just find their new favorite weekly activity. Just remind your child that you’ll give them hugs and kisses at the door and stick around to watch them shine during their in-class performances. For toddler dance classes, check out our Preschool Creative Dance Class for ages 2.5-3.

Jazz/HipHop Combo Class Builds Musicality and Strength

In our Jazz/HipHop Combo class, your Mini learns core concepts of both the HipHop and Jazz Dance disciplines in the form of fun and engaging lessons and combinations. The HipHop portion of class helps your child learn to recognize beats and counts in the music, balance and control their body movements, and execute strong isolations. At the halfway point in class, dancers stay in the classroom and change into their jazz shoes. You’ll watch your dancer stretch, build strength, dance to the beat in popular Kidz Bop tunes, and conquer gross motor skills such as skipping, galloping, and leaping during the Jazz portion of class. Counting, listening, call and response, taking turns, performance quality, and memorizing sequences are additional skills we’ve hidden throughout a variety of fun activities in Jazz/HipHop Combo. Over the course of week-to-week attendance in class, you’ll be amazed at your child’s progress in the disciplines of both HipHop and Jazz.

The Right Jazz/HipHop Dancewear Sets the Tone for Success in Class

Wearing the right dance wear to class prepares your Mini to be focused in class. As the first portion of this class covers the HipHop discipline, girls should arrive to class wearing dance/workout wear (no midriffs showing) and sneakers, with hair secured out of the face. Boys should arrive wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers. All dancers are required to bring their jazz shoes packed in a dance bag labeled with their name. This allows for easy changing access for the Jazz portion in the second half of class.

All Jazz/HipHop Combo dance students should bring their slip-on jazz shoes to each class. Our favorite brands are Capezio or Bloch, and our preferred colors are black and tan. Traditionally, the color of the shoe should match the color worn on the ankle or lower leg. For instance, if the dancer is wearing black leggings, black jazz shoes are best. Alternatively, if the dancer is wearing skin tone tights or bare legs, a tan or skin tone jazz shoe is best. Having two pairs of jazz shoes is not required, however, especially as it becomes quite an expense with how fast your child’s feet grow! If you want only one pair, we recommend black jazz shoes.

Musical Theatre Song & Dance Combo Class for Your Shining Star

Our Musical Theatre Song & Dance Combo class is one of Stagelight’s most popular classes and is perfect for those who believe the world is their personal stage and aren’t afraid to show off their new dance moves every chance they get. In this dance class for kids, your child gains a foundation in vocal music, dance, and performance training in an artistic outlet that builds confidence and promotes creative expression. Through guided vocal warmups, song memorization, and fast-paced choreography and dance combinations, students leave class equal parts exhausted and elated by their weekly accomplishments. This class is the perfect place to start if your child wants an introduction to the world of dance or simply needs a structured program to fulfill their never-ending performance aspirations. It’s also an excellent way for them to build lasting friendships in and outside of class.

Tap/Ballet Combo Class for Training in Musicality and Dance Technique

Our Tap/Ballet Combo class is the perfect mix between graceful and rhythmic. During the Tap Dance portion of this class, your child learns to recognize beats and counts in the music, balance and control their body movements, and make lots of noise… ahem, music… with their tap shoes! At the halfway point in class, dancers stay in the classroom and change into their ballet shoes. You’ll watch your dancer stretch, build strength, and conquer gross motor skills such as skipping, galloping, and leaping during the Ballet portion of class. For our most dedicated young dancers, our Level II Tap/Ballet Combo is designed for those who have already taken at least one year of dance class. This class provides the familiar comfort of the combo class structure but includes more challenging technical and choreographic activities to keep dancers growing and inspired. During the Tap Dance portion of this class, your child learns to recognize more complex patterns in music, executes more difficult steps, and uses their tap shoes to create percussive rhythms. Just as in Tap/Ballet Combo I, at the halfway point in class, dancers stay in the classroom and change into their ballet shoes.

As our Tap/Ballet Combo II class requires a slightly elevated skill level from our Mini Stagelighters, they are required to have instructor approval to enroll in the class. Instructor approval is given to currently enrolled students in their annual class recommendation forms at the end of the current season. For new incoming students, performers who have taken dance at other studios or schools may be ready for a higher level. If your child has completed at least one year of outside training in either of these disciplines, you can schedule an assessment with one of our teachers. If enrollment is currently open and you are interested in registering for an upper level class, please email the studio at stagelightarts@gmail.com to schedule this assessment with one of our qualified instructors.

Wear the Right Attire for Class to Increase Focus
