Lexie is currently studying Elementary Education, which has been a wonderful way to deepen her understanding of how children learn and grow. Having been a student at Stagelight for over seven years, this studio truly feels like home. She’s loved subbing for many of you over the past couple of years, but she is thrilled to officially have her own classes now! She is passionate about creating a space where kids feel safe to be their authentic, silly selves. Her goal is to use movement and creativity to help her students build confidence and express who they are.

What do you love most about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is I get to celebrate the ‘silly’ side of learning. I love creating a classroom where movement is encouraged and creativity is celebrated. I love the excitement on a child’s face when they realize they can use their imagination and their body to tell a story or express exactly who they are, and just have fun!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I love reading (mostly romance novels) and spending time at Disneyland usually taking pictures and snacking. My family runs a vintage booth, so I spend a lot of my free time thrifting for treasures to sell there. In fact, most of my own clothes are thrifted, too! I’m also a huge fan of the beach, and if I’m being honest, I pretty much eat ice cream every single day.

What are 3 fun facts about you?

1. I’m a lifelong Star Wars fan. I’ve been obsessed since I was a little girl. I love absolutely everything about it!

2. I’m an analog movie collector! There is nothing quite like the thrill of the hunt. I’ve been building a collection of my favorite films on DVD, and I’m always at the thrift store searching for that next perfect find to add to my shelf.

3. I’ve actually broken both of my feet the same way, back-to-back, and both times right here at Stagelight! If anything, it just proves how much time I’ve spent dancing in this studio. I’m definitely more graceful on stage than I am walking around but I promise I’m (mostly) better now.

Why did you choose to pursue a career in your field?

I feel like I was always meant to be an educator because I grew up surrounded by it. Both of my parents were education majors, so I have seen firsthand the impact that a dedicated mentor can have on a student. I have been working with children for over five years now, both in the dance studio and in the classroom, and I have found so much joy in that work. I love having the opportunity to foster young, creative minds and help them grow into confident and kind humans. The world always needs more creativity and joy!

If you weren’t a teacher, what other job could you see yourself pursuing?

If I wasn’t a teacher… I think I would be a Disneyland tour guide! I love to talk, but especially about anything Disney.

What’s your favorite musical, movie, and/or show?

My Top three musicals are Waitress, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Notebook. My favorite movie is the Princess Bride!
