OUR MISSION

Stagelight Dance Company is a unique experience where commercial and concert dance collide. This experience was created to give the committed dancer an opportunity to further their training and artistic development by providing access to exclusive performance opportunities, guest artist classes, and various dance media workshops. Our company members are learning the importance of teamwork and their own personal commitment to their craft. Stagelight Dance Company is the place where dancers can be supported and challenged, as well as encouraged to learn their strengths and develop their own voice as an artist.

24/25 SEASON AUDITIONS

Auditions to join Stagelight Dance Company are by invitation only. Invitations have been sent on Monday, May 13th, 2024.

Auditions are on Saturday May 25 and are held at Stagelight Performing Arts in Studio E. Based on your dancer’s current age, they should  attend the [Junior or Teen] audition slot.

Junior

  • Check in and self warm-up: 11:30am
  • Audition: 12:00pm-1:00pm

Teen

  • Check in and self warm-up: 1:00pm
  • Audition: 1:30pm-2:30pm

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE AUDITIONS

  • We are thrilled to have guest artist Jonathan Banh teaching both of our audition slots!
  • Be sure to arrive early for check in & warm up for your age group. This is where your dancer receives a number and is able to thoroughly warm themselves up.
  • The audition begins promptly at your child’s Junior or Teen time (see above for audition timeslots)
  • During the audition, dancers do a short across the floor sequence which showcases their technical abilities (various jazz turns, leaps, and footwork).
  • Everyone learns a short combo where they can demonstrate their ability to perform and memorize movement quickly.
    • This combo is performed in small groups for the judges.
    • They are also asked to improvise during their audition.
  • Dancers are assessed on their overall strength/flexibility, ability to retain choreography, clarity of movement, knowledge, performance quality, attitude, and studio etiquette.
  • Leaving studio E during the audition is prohibited, unless there is an emergency. This ensures every dancer remains engaged, equal, and honest. So, make sure they remember to use the restroom before and to bring their water!
  • Parents are welcome to drop off their dancer, or stay and wait in the lobby. However, this is a closed audition, so TV viewing is not available.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR

Dancers should present themselves in a clean and professional manner in order to make a good first impression. Dancers attending the audition should come wearing:

  • Form-fitting attire such as a leotard, tank top, leggings, shorts, or tights (no sweats or baggy t-shirts).
  • Hair must be secured neatly out of their face.
  • Dancers should wear jazz shoes or half soles for the audition. However, it is always smart to bring all dance shoes/sneakers, just in case.
  • Your dancer is allowed to bring only water into the studio during the audition.
