Acting Classes in Orange County Build Authenticity

An actor in an Acting Class Orange County builds confidence and authenticity.
An actor in one of our Acting Classes in Orange County takes a note from the director before rehearsing his scene.

If your child dreams of starring on stage or screen, giving their Oscar-worthy performance of a lifetime, or if you simply hope to help your child conquer the fear of speaking in front of their class at school, we invite you into one of our Acting Classes in Orange County! An art form that has captured the hearts of many performers and audiences alike, Acting may be the perfect medium to assist your child in coming out of their shell or provide them with the creative outlet they have been longing for.

ACTING THROUGH THE AGES

As one of the earliest forms of art and entertainment, Acting has been around since the Ancient Greek poet Thespis was the first to stand on a stage and embody a character entirely separate from his own identity. I know what you’re thinking: How can a poet in the 6th Century B.C. help my child build their public speaking skills or grow their sense of empathy? Well, an introduction or, even better, a lasting involvement in the Acting art form can actually do both of those things–plus more!

AUTHENTIC CONNECTION TO SELF AND OTHERS

Acting students at Stagelight Performing Arts learn how to embody fictional characters and work to express their thoughts and feelings with authenticity and believability. Through cooperative games, improvisational exercises, script memorization, scenework, and a good amount of laughs, our students build strong friendships and an appreciation of each of their unique differences. If you’re looking for a fun activity, but also a place for your child to feel at home, look no further!

In our welcoming and supportive learning environment, students develop the skills of a successful actor: pacing, reacting, portraying a character, script analysis, and an ability to act out various emotions. Our Acting program specializes in aiding students toward the mastery of divergent thinking, the art of listening, defining characters’ objectives and tactics, identifying relevant subtext, observing details about human nature, and much more. Learning these skills contributes to a growing sense of empathy, trust, authenticity, imagination, intuition, and commitment, which can help your Actor to develop an elevated emotional maturity at such a critical age.

DRESS THE ROLE, COME PREPARED, PLAY THE PART

In order to have the best experience in class, our Stagelight Actors should wear comfortable clothing that they can easily move in (no midriffs showing). They should also bring a binder, spiral-bound notebook, pencil, and highlighter to each class.

GO EVEN DEEPER INTO THE STUDY OF ACTING

Encore! Encore! If your soon-to-be Oscar-winning actor has previously completed at least one year in the study of Acting, our Level II and Level III classes can serve to help them further develop their craft. Our advanced-level Actors are challenged with more dramatic acting, scenework, monologues, character work, heightened focus, improvisation, cold readings, and breaking down the actions in a script. Together the Stagelight Actors, under the engaging direction of Danielle Keaton, build trust with each other, explore objectives in a scene, enhance their observation abilities, and participate in truthful performances. This class is designed for the serious performer, and Actors are expected to attend each class with all required materials, including the previously distributed materials, such as scripts, and an open and willing attitude to work hard in class. Respect and the acceptance of each other in Acting II and Acting III is absolutely expected to maintain the safe space that must exist in order for young performers to thrive.

As our Level II and III Acting classes require a slightly elevated skill level from our performers, they are required to have instructor approval to enroll in the class. Instructor approval is given to currently enrolled students in their annual class recommendation forms at the end of the current season. For new incoming students, performers who have taken Acting at other studios or schools may be ready for a higher level. If your child has completed at least one year of outside training in this discipline, you can schedule an assessment with one of our teachers. If enrollment is currently open and you are interested in registering for an upper level class, please email the studio at stagelightarts@gmail.com to schedule this assessment with one of our qualified instructors.
